Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I will understand.

Confucius

Probably all of us had a problem in the past that was hard to understand when explained at school but when encountered again in a different environment it suddenly got clear, exciting and fun! We bet you can easily find an example of this kind of situation yourself - just think of something that you understand really well and would like to explain to others - show them your excitement and involve them in the process!

New technologies give us opportunity to bring new ideas to life in education. Information revolution is ongoing and technologies extending our cognitive abilities are changing the world. Don't try to replace teachers but help them explaining complex ideas.

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

Albert Einstein

Give students the "Eureka!" moment by allowing them to explore and experiment. Bring fun into learning by introducing curiosity. Create solutions that don't require instructions or manuals. Give your users freedom to explore ideas the way they want to.

As programmers we are the ones responsible for how fast the new generations acquire knowledge. Create things that are important, change our reality and influence people's lives.

Computer

The hackathon

All the solutions (app / webapp / game etc.) will be rated in two categories:

01

Idea

How your idea fits into the "learn | teach | explore" paradigm, how well you connected technology and education to aid learning process etc.

02

Technical quality

How good your technical decisions were (tools, process, architecture, frameworks etc.), how you managed to develop your solution during 24 hours, if you have ideas how to develop it further etc.

For both categories we will grant a prize. The prizes are independent of each other. You can aim to win both of them or focus more on just one.

  • Why should I focus on education?

At Setapp we're trying to push the notion of meaningful software. Software that not only works but also makes a difference. We feel that allowing people to learn new, complex ideas in a fun and easy way is the essence of meaningful software, at the same time providing a real challenge.

  • How can I apply?

Before applying you need to have an idea for the project you'll be developing. While filling out the application form you'll find a few questions about your idea. We'll use these answers to select the teams that will be invited to participate in the hackathon. Once you submit your details you'll receive a confirmation e-mail. We'll contact the selected teams and invite them to take part in the hackathon.

  • How many people can be on one team?

There can be a up to 6 people in a team. The number of people isn’t crucial. It’s important that you are a team ready for the challenge!

  • How do I get there?

Our headquarter is a 20-minute walk from the Railway Main Station. You can get there by tram or bus (the stop is called Rondo Jeziorańskiego). If you prefer to come by car, you can park in the paid zone in City Park (we'll arrange a free entry for you). Take a look at the map for more details.

  • What kind of technologies can I use?

At Setapp we don't restrict ourselves to any specific technologies so we won't limit what you can do. You can develop whatever solution you like: a mobile or web app, maybe an embedded solution with custom hardware. You can use VR and/or AR. But make sure that you know the technology you're going to use before starting the challenge.

  • How our projects will be assessed?

There will be two categories – each with a prize. Not only is your idea important but also the implementation of your project. We would like to give a chance to those who not only have an idea but also put effort in the execution of their project. So if you're up for the challenge – bring an awesome idea, implement it in a perfect way and grab both prizes.

The technical quality of your project will be judged based on many factors including: your choice of technology/frameworks, the architecture of your code, how extensible your code is etc.

  • How to follow information about the event?

We will update information on Facebook. You can follow our event there. Crucial information will be also sent to the Team Captains' e-mail. Captains, remember - pass all the information to your team!

  • What attractions will be provided?

You will have the possibility to play with the newest technology, such as HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, HoloLens etc. We will show you what possibilities new technologies provide. Should you feel tired after a few hours of working, there will be place to rest and boost your energy.

And, of course, we won't let you be thirsty or hungry during the event.

We are an active member of information revolution. Developing software that matters is our passion. Meaningful projects motivate us to work harder. We want you to join us and feel this atmosphere.
